DLR Prerna, is a Darjeeling based NGO who works to build sustainable communities in the Darjeeling Hills and in the Eastern Himalaya by working on a wide range of rural and urban community development issues. Job Description
Programme Summary
In partnership with Broadleaf, we work to develop innovative school-based health programs that improve educational outcomes and maximize well-being. We believe that a holistic, community-based approach to improving health can unlock human potential and create opportunities for every child to thrive.

As a member of our team you will contribute in TeaLeaF (Teacher Leading Frontline):

TeaLeaf expands access to mental health care for children which is a crucial global health challenge including in the Darjeeling Himalaya. According to WHO ten to twenty percent of all children suffer from a mental health challenge. These conditions adversely impact children’s emotional wellbeing throughout life. Innovative care models are urgently needed to support these children.

In TeaLeaf, we are conducting a research study to assess the effectiveness of training classroom teachers to deliver evidence-based psychological care in 50 low cost private schools in rural Darjeeling.  In the year 2019 to 2021 we will implement alternative and combined models of education and mental health care that leverage existing teachers to improve the lives of children with mental health struggles. We will conduct qualitative and quantitative research to assess and evaluate the efficacy of these interventions.

The TeaLeaf programme in Darjeeling is implemented in collaboration with University of Colorado Center for Global Health and University of North Carolina.
